Herdsmen abduct 3 federal workers on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Three federal employees were kidnapped along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway by gunmen presumed to be Fulani herders.

This comes exactly one week after four passengers were kidnapped and their driver was slain on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway’s Onigari axis.

The kidnappers, who were estimated to number in the tens, were alleged to have emerged from a bush along the motorway, shooting sporadically at passing vehicles and passengers.

According to reports, the victims, who work for a construction company, were driving home after an event when their car broke down.
According to sources, the automobile was being repaired when the intruders ambushed them from behind a bush.

The niece of one of the victims took to her official Twitter handle and said; “My Uncle has been kidnapped together with two of his friends along lagos – ibadan expressway… SOUTH WEST IS ON FIRE.. the fulanis are taking over our bushes, they video called and these kidnappers are on military uniforms speaking hausa .

“This happened yesterday on their way back to lagos from an event in ibadan… they’re demanding 20M, 5M per head.. and they said they’d kill them by 12 tomorrow if the money is not available.. Yoruba land is no longer safe, they are here, the fulanis are here.”

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ogun State command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the abduction of three persons.

He, however, said that the command had started working on it, with the anti-kidnapping unit, vigilantes and hunters, combing the bush to get the perpetrators and rescue the victims.

Police foil gunmen attack on Anambra station

The Anambra State Police Command has said that it foiled a planned attack on the Police Divisional Headquarters in Nneni, in the Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.

Some yet-to-be-identified assailants, in the early hours of Thursday, invaded the police station, throwing explosive devices which burnt part of the building.

A source and one of the residents in the area said the hoodlums were attempting to free some inmates at the facility, but they were unsuccessful as police officers on duty repelled the attack.

When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the attack but added that no life was lost and the assailants were repelled.

“In Nneni, no life was lost, no policeman was whisked away, and no arm was taken away. Instead, the hoodlums threw IEDs into the police facility which torched part of the building.

“Our operatives gallantly resisted the attackers which made them flee. Operations are still ongoing and further development shall be communicated, please,” Ikenga said.

Terrorist leader Junaidu Fasagora, scores of his fighters killed in Zamfara

The Nigerian Army says it has killed notorious terrorist leader Junaidu Fasagora and scores of his fighters after a ferocious artillery bombardment and ground battle in Tsafe general area of Zamfara State.

The Army, in a statement on its verified social media handles said the troops deployed in Zamfara State for Counter terrorism Counter insurgency operations in the North West Region achieved the feat.

“Junaidu Fasagora and his terrorists group have long been responsible for a series of kidnappings and other terrorism activities against the populace across several states in the North West.

“Their elimination marks a crucial victory in the fight against terrorism and insurgency,” the army said.

According to the military, the successful operation is a clear assertion of Nigerian Army’s relentless pursuit of peace and stability in the region and other regions of the country.

“Troops remain committed to sustaining the ongoing operations against terrorism, insurgency and sundry crimes to restore safety and security to troubled areas,” it said.

Delta police nab suspected kidnapper, rescue three victims

The Delta State Police Command has announced the rescue of three kidnapped victims and the arrest of a suspected kidnapper in the Egbudu-Akah community area of the state.

The spokesperson for the command in the state, SP Bright Edafe, made this statement on Tuesday in Asaba.

He said, “On Monday, March 25, 2024, a concerned citizen (name withheld) was going about his hunting in the thick forest in Egbudu-Akah community, Aniocha South LGA, he sighted a group of people suspected to be kidnappers, and their helpless kidnapped victims.

“He quickly ran out from the bush and reported what he had seen to the police. Upon receiving this information, the DPO in coordinated operation, mobilised his patrol team and men of the vigilante, as they charged swiftly into the forest on a rescue mission.

“While the operatives were about to draw close to the den of these kidnappers, they were sighted by the suspected kidnappers which necessitated the criminals to take to their hills as they exchanged fire with the team of officers in a bid to escape.

“In the process of the exchange of fire, one of the suspected kidnappers was arrested and all three kidnapped female victims were rescued and taken to the hospital for medical attention.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that all the victims were kidnapped on their way to the hospital. It was also revealed that the said suspected kidnappers earlier demanded N15m ransom for their release.”

Edafe stated that items such as three cutlasses, two TECNO phones, a solar panel, a power bank, and charms, among others, were recovered.

He added that the suspect and the recovered items have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigations.
