In a move that underscores the commitment of the Taraba State Government to prioritize education and make it more accessible, the Taraba state Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas has approved a significant reduction in tuition fees for final year students at the College of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo.

Effective immediately, all final year students pursuing their nursing and midwifery diplomas will benefit from a 50% reduction in tuition fees. This decision aims at alleviating the financial burden on students and their families, ensuring that quality education remains affordable and accessible to all.

Dr.Agbu Kefas stated, “Education is the bedrock of our society, and we are dedicated to providing opportunities for our students to excel without the undue burden of high tuition costs. We believe that this reduction will not only support our students but also contribute to the development of the healthcare sector in our state.”

The Taraba State Government remains committed to enhancing the quality of education and healthcare services in the state. This reduction in tuition fees is a significant step towards achieving these goals.

Brooks Consolidated Investments Limited, Jos, an organisation that specialises in supplying books and library essentials to universities and research institutes, has donated 252 volumes of books worth N8,988,200 million to Plateau State University, Bokkos.

The organisation said that the donation was a testament to the company’s enduring commitment to education and the pursuit of knowledge.

Managing Director of Brooks Consolidated Investments Limited, Mr Sunday Jesmiel, while making the donation said that the company was proud to be associated with Plateau State University, which has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence in education and research.

He said, “The donation of these books to Plateau State University today, not only reflects our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and educational advancement, but also serves as a direct response to the urgent appeal made by the University’s Governing Council Chairman and former Vice Chancellor.

National Directorate of Employment (NDE), on Monday, commenced the training of 75 youths on environprenuership development scheme to attract market principles in Taraba.

Alhaji Danjuma Shehu, Taraba state coordinator of the directorate disclosed during the training orientation in Jalingo that the idea was to bring market principles to resolve environmental problems, encourages Market-Based solutions to environmental problems by educating environmentalists on the principles of economics and marketing.

The coordinator also explained that the training orientation was to focus on environmental problems to accommodate societal needs, meet the economic objectives of NDE since it’s for doing business.

According to the coordinator, the programme was aimed at improving environmental sustainability and social contribution to society, noting that the Enviriprenuership was full of resources and could nurture a culture of life cycle-based, thinking on how to turn wastes into valuables within the rules and norms of the society.

“Environprenuership Development is about bringing market principles to resolve environmental problems. It encourages Market-Based solutions to environmental problems by educating environmentalists, principles of economics and marketing

“This programme is aimed at improving the environmental sustainability and the social contribution to the society. It will also cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the unemployed in both rural and urban areas.

“The implementation of the scheme will in no small measure, increase the socio-economic activities, generate employment opportunities, encourage wealth creation and impact poverty reduction efforts in Taraba state and the country at large

“Our objective is to reduce unemployment among youth by providing job opportunities in Enviroprenuership development. We intend to provide entrepreneurship skills training to interested unemployed youths and persons through various workshops on recycling existing waste materials/resources which will in turn benefit present and future generations.

“The desire is to provide a means of livelihood and self-reliance to participants upon completion of (on-the-job skills training in EDS), reduce the impact of climate change on the environment, improve standard of living of the participants of the scheme, acquire skills training on the use of waste materials to develop several products and services that would bring about sustainable business and create environmental maintenance awareness amongst people living in the communities.

“The targeted participants are both university graduates, NCE holders, diploma holders and school leavers, while the training duration is (3) months,” the state coordinator explained.
