Nigeria labeled with 2nd most highest musical streams on Spotify

Nigeria has been ranked second in the world in terms of the number of songs streamed on Spotify.

According to a new report published by the music streaming service, Nigerian music lovers streamed 3.2 billion songs on Spotify, with 8 million downloads and 79 million monthly listeners Nigerians surpassed the likes of Argentina, and India to finish behind Pakistan.

Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, disclosed this during a media chat in Lagos on Thursday.

Okumu, who said that the study was carried out by Spotify, added that Kenya ranked third.

She said that artistes including WizKid, Burna Boy, Tems and Mr Eazi ranked amongst the top five exported local artistes from Nigeria on Spotify.

She said Spotify’s presence in Nigeria over the past years had seen Nigerians go on a journey of discovery.
“Interesting facts and data gathered by Spotify reveal that the average number of artists streamed per user locally has grown by 60 per cent.

“And 20,935 songs were added to the Spotify platform by creators, since market entry, this places Nigeria as the country with the second most streams after Pakistan, with Kenya ranking third.

“Data also revealed that of the top 10 exported songs from Nigeria, nine are collaborations between local and international hitmakers, a proof that Nigerian music is attracting worldwide attention and popularity,” she said.

Spotify added that 30% of the Nigerian Alte genre is being streamed in the United States, with a growth of more than 200% over the past years and over 40% of the Afropop from Nigeria was streamed in the United States of America, United Kingdom and France.

Nana Otedola blesses DJ Cuppy with prayers for a partner after baptism

Nana Otedola, the mother of popular disc jockey Florence Otedola, also known as DJ Cuppy, has prayed for her daughter following her recent baptism.

DJ Cuppy and her younger sister, Temi Otedola, were baptized recently and shared videos of the ceremony, which their mother attended.

Following this event, Nana Otedola expressed her hopes for DJ Cuppy, who is seeking a life partner.

DJ Cuppy posted a screenshot of a conversation with her mother, in which Nana prayed that God would bless her with a man who is devoted to Him.

She encouraged DJ Cuppy by saying that as she grows into her best self and strengthens her bond with God, she will encounter a man who is on a similar path.

“Now that you are becoming your best self and fully united to God, when you are not watching, you will meet a man on his own best self journey. God will give you a man who is running after Him IJN”, Nana wrote.

Why I am not ready to have kids now – Burna Boy

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has opened up about why he is not ready to be a father yet.

The ‘City Boys’ crooner said he is not ready to have kids yet because he can’t give them the attention they deserve.

The entertainer stated this while responding to a question raised by a fan during a recent Instagram live session with his fans.

He explained that he would have children when he was settled or married.

“Why haven’t I had kids yet? Bro, because I don’t want to have kids yet,” Burna boy said.

“Have you seen my mum the way she loves me? Have you seen my dad the way he loves me?I know I can’t give that to anyone right now with the life I’m living. So until I’m settled and I can be there for my children everyday, I’m not having no kid.

“I feel like my kids deserved better than I got. And I got both my mum and dad so you understand?”

On the allegations that he is impotent, Burna Boy said, “When I see the bants and the things people say [about me not being able to have kids], I said this is unimportant. Let’s assume that it is true that I couldn’t even have kids, you know that there’s something called IVF? But that is not even true.”

Burna Boy started to gain fame after releasing ‘Like to Party’, the lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E’ (2013).

In 2021, the singer set a record in Nigeria after his fifth album ‘Twice As Tall (2020)’ won the ‘Best World Music Album’ category at the Grammys.

Burna Boy claimed he brought the Afrobeats genre to the mainstream in 2020.

“FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti,” he said.

There might be good news in the corners of young men who have been hoping to date popular Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr, following her recent disclosure.

The singer, known otherwise as Sabi Girl, opened up about her relationship status, noting that she is still single at age 21.

She, however, expressed her hopes to find love soon, while admitting that she has broken a few hearts.

Speaking in a recent interview the singer said, “I am not in love yet but [I will be] soon. I have broken a few hearts. Not on purpose, though. In case I’ve broken anybody’s heart, it has not been on purpose.”
