Concerned APC members in Adamawa warn that the party risks further decline unless immediate reconciliation efforts are made to unite its members.

Some prominent past leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State have voiced concerns over the party’s dwindling fortunes in the state, urging immediate reconciliation efforts to avert further decline.

The APC, which failed to secure the governorship seat in both the 2019 and 2023 elections, has been grappling with internal divisions that threaten its future, according to party stakeholders.

A group of concerned APC members, led by former state deputy chairman Saidu Naira, gathered in Yola on Sunday to discuss the party’s challenges and call for urgent action.

Naira and other stakeholders expressed that if the party fails to address its internal issues, it risks losing any hope of success in the 2027 elections.

“If the party and members have largely been ignored, now is the time that our leaders must reach out and make the party a united and strong front,” Naira stated during the meeting.

He explained that discontent among members is leading to defections, with many already leaving the party for other political groups.

The group also alleged that no significant or sincere reconciliation efforts have been made since the 2023 election, further fuelling dissatisfaction.

According to Naira, many APC members feel abandoned by the leadership and are frustrated with what they perceive as the hijacking of the party at the state level by a few powerful individuals.

In light of these concerns, Naira called on President Bola Tinubu and APC national chairman, Umar Ganduje, to intervene in order to restore the party’s unity and relevance in the state.

Specifically, he appealed to Ganduje to form a committee and send delegates to Adamawa to address the issues and allow the party to regain its focus.

The call for reconciliation and unity within the APC comes at a critical time, as the party faces the risk of further fragmentation in the lead-up to future elections.

Without swift action to heal internal divisions, many believe that the APC’s prospects in Adamawa may continue to diminish.

Edo APC criticises ex-Governor Obaseki’s administration for increasing the state’s debt by up to 3000%, urging transparency on fund usage.

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over the state’s rising debt profile, attributing a sharp increase to the eight-year tenure of the immediate past governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Speaking at a press briefing in Benin City, Patrick Ikhariale, a chieftain of the APC and secretary of the party’s transition committee, revealed that the state’s debt under Obaseki surged to over ₦485 billion as of November 2024.

This marks a 2000–3000% rise compared to the ₦44 billion accumulated by all previous administrations between 1991 and 2016.

Ikhariale, who is also a member of the Assets Verification Committee, highlighted the stark contrast in debt levels during the tenure of former governors, including Chief John Odigie Oyegun and Adams Oshiomhole, compared to Obaseki’s administration.

“From 1991 to 2016, the total debt profile of Edo State was less than ₦44 billion. However, as of today, that figure has ballooned to over ₦485 billion, representing a staggering 2000 to 3000 percent increase,” Ikhariale stated.

He emphasised the importance of accountability and transparency in the use of public funds, urging the previous administration to provide a clear explanation of how the funds were utilised.

Ikhariale clarified that the committee’s objective is fact-finding and not to conduct a witch-hunt. He also called on members of the public to submit memoranda that could aid in the committee’s investigation, which aims to ensure good governance and fiscal responsibility.

The committee, inaugurated by Governor Monday Okpebholo, will assess the state’s financial and physical assets as part of its mandate. According to Ikhariale, such exercises are in line with international best practices and essential for transparency in governance.

The APC’s stance reflects growing calls for financial accountability in Edo State, with residents eagerly awaiting further clarification from the previous administration regarding the sharp debt increase.

The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced its intention to challenge Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election, sparking a strong rebuttal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At the inauguration of its offices in Ila, Boripe, and Ifelodun Local Government Areas on Thursday, NNPP Chairman Dr. Tosin Odeyemi expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, highlighting the dissatisfaction with the current government and the broader economic challenges affecting Nigeria.

“Our chances of winning Osun State in the 2026 election are very bright. The NNPP has made significant progress since its inception.

The economic hardship is weakening the APC at the national level, and the PDP government in Osun is struggling to govern effectively,” Odeyemi said, asserting that this presented a prime opportunity for the NNPP to end Adeleke’s leadership.

However, the PDP quickly dismissed these claims, with Oladele Bamiji, the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, calling the NNPP’s statements “baseless rhetoric.”

He added that Adeleke’s achievements would ensure his re-election, claiming the current administration’s progress is undeniable and that no opposition party could derail it.

Bamiji urged the NNPP to reconsider its stance, suggesting that the people of Osun are benefiting from unprecedented developments under Adeleke’s leadership.

The feud between the two parties underscores the intense political rivalry ahead of the 2026 election.
