Breaking: Sanwoolu’s contender, Abdul-Ahmed Mustapha, bounced at Lagos APC guber primary venue

Published

The Lagos State Governorship Primary Election Committee of the All Progressives Congress, on Thursday, barred one of the aspirants from the venue of the primary at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, formerly Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island.

It was learnt that the committee prevented one of the contenders of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Abdul-Ahmed Mustapha, from the venue.

Mustapha, a former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Minerals Resources in Lagos, resigned 14 months ago and had picked up the N50m governorship form of the party.

It was gathered that the committee chaired by a former deputy governor of Borno State, Shettima Yuguda, claimed that Mustapha was not cleared by the screening committee of the party.

However, the aspirant told The PUNCH that he was in Abuja two weeks ago for the screening though the result was not announced.

He said the Secretary of the primary election committee, Bashir Mohammed, turned him back on Thursday, saying that he was not cleared and as such cannot be given accreditation access to the venue.

Mustapha said, “We were told that we were not cleared by the leadership of the party and as such, they only gave accreditation tags to those that were cleared.

“We went to Abuja for clearance two weeks ago. The results of the clearance were not communicated to us.

“We went to the APC state secretariat at Acme Road yesterday (Wednesday), we tried to get our accreditation tags but we were not given. We were there till 7am this morning before going to the venue of the primary.”

Efforts to reach Yuguda, Mohammed and another member of the committee, Tilewa Sijuade, proved abortive as of press time as calls to their lines rang out.

Also, APC chairman for Lagos, Cornelius Ojelabi, did not take his calls as of press time.

Sanwo-Olu, the anointed aspirant of APC leader, Bola Tinubu, is seeking re-election. He is in the race with Mustapha; and Wale Oluwo, a former Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in Lagos who is also an ally of ex-governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

As Nigerians gear towards the 2023 elections, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, on Saturday reiterated his resolve to work for the victory of all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) both at the national and state levels.

Dr. Obasa said this when he received former deputy governor of Lagos and senatorial candidate of the APC in Lagos West, Idiat Oluranti Adebule and her team, who were in Agege as part of campaigns ahead of the election.

According to the Speaker, the goal of current political activities is to make sure that the APC wins at all stages of the election from the presidential to the House of Assembly.

Dr. Obasa expressed confidence that Asiwaju will become the president while further noting his expectation that the party would have the majority at the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“This would make governance at the federal level very easy. Same thing goes for our State,” he said.

The Speaker urged members of the party as well as his loyalists to continue to remain dedicated and put their trusts in God to crown their efforts with the needed victories and successes.

He also tasked the members to work in unity, cooperation and with passion as, according to him, victory begins with internal cohesion just as he expressed confidence that the Southwest zone would deliver massively for Tinubu.

“Agege is so committed to the APC. We want good results. We want victories with a landslide. We must show total commitment and dedication and that is when we will get what we want. I commend you all for the support you have given our incoming senator,” he told the party loyalists, who thronged his constituency office.

In her remarks, Adebule thanked Agege people for their commitment to the party. She said records have shown great results from the area during elections.

She said she decided to visit Agege to thank the people and further plead for their support.

L-R: The convener of Hope Movement, Godwin Odunsani; convener of Strategic Movement for BAT's Presidency 2023, SMBP, Chief Rasheed Owolabi Taiwo; and the deputy governor of Ogun State, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, at the Asiwaju Affirmation Seminar, held in Abeokuta, the state's capital, on Saturday, January 28, 2023

A political advocacy group, Hope Movement, Hope Movement, in collaboration with the Strategic Movement for BAT Presidency (SMBP), has stated that the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate is the key to economic prosperity for the coming generation.

This was made known to the media at a talk titled Asiwaju Affirmation Seminar, which had in attendance many political heavyweights in Ogun State and held in Abeokuta, the state’s capital, on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

In a paper presented by the guest lecturer, Jamiu Bashir, on Unlocking Economic Prosperity For Generation Next, Asiwaju is more than qualified to pilot the affairs of the nation in ensuring that Nigeria becomes something the future generation can be proud of.

In his own remarks, the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by the deputy governor, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, stated that Tinubu’s capacity to assemble a strong team to initiate and execute developmental policies and programmes have never been in doubt judging from his antecedence as the Lagos State governor.

“It is not enough to hold a seminar as we are having, but the most important thing is to go out there and to put our words to action. Your activity on Twitter and IG as youth does not count but your PVC with which you will vote is the most important. Take charge of your future,” the governor added.

The global convener of the Hope Movement, Godwin Odusami, resonated that the APC candidate has the ability to drive the needed growth and development in Nigeria.

He expressed worry over the growing poverty and economic hardship both in the rural and urban setting, saying the country needs to be handed over to the person who has the experience and capacity to solve the problems.

On his part, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Chairman in Ogun State, Architect Samson Popoola said Tinubu has invested so much in the democracy of this country to earn him the presidency.

“Whatever they say about Tinubu, some other people have done worse, and they were able to rule. If they say Tinubu is sick, we have had someone that was on the hospital bed, and somebody was campaigning for him, and he became the President.

“What are we talking about? If it is our own turn to bring someone of our own to lead, I think Tinubu has invested a lot in the democracy of this country to earn him the leadership.”

The convener of Strategic Movement for BAT Presidency 2023, SMBP, Chief Rasheed Owolabi Taiwo,

“The Youths deserve the best in this country. As elders, we have experienced good times as youths in this country but it’s unfortunate what the generation unfolding are experiencing. I feel we need a leadership that is responsive to the yearnings of the youths, which was the essence of the lecture for today.

“Aside from this, I also saw some misgiving in the polity, where people felt maybe Bola Ahmed Tinubu had sense of entitlement a sense of entitlement by saying that emilokan.

“The Emilokan statement was targeted at the APC delegates from Ogun State. Even in the United States, there is a emilokan syndrome. It’s not written in their constitution but any sitting president would be given the opportunity of contesting. The same thing in the United Kingdom; it’s the leader of the party that would be given the first consideration for contesting.

“Tinubu saying emilokan was only directed to the APC members; he wasn’t referring to the generality of the Nigerians, who would vote when the time comes.

“Of all the contestants, Bola Ahmed has been tested and he has performed. Let us forget about trivialities. I’ve worked with with Atiku Abubakar before and I know him very well when he was in customs. The same thing goes for Peter Obi and none of them have the qualities of Asiwaju in terms of governance. And I believe the country would be transformed,” Chief Taiwo said.

Wike Dares Ayu,Suspend Me And See The Repercussions

Published

on

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has dared the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu to suspend the G-5 governors and see if the party would be able to withstand the storm that will follow.

Speaking yesterday, at the campaign flag-off rally of the State PDP Campaign Council in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of the State, Governor Wike boasted that the G-5 Governors are above the threat of suspension.

“We are above that level that you think you can threaten anybody; intimidate anybody with whatever illegal decision you have taken.”

“So, we are waiting for you to announce my own and any other of my friend. Like I have said, when a man says you will not sleep, he too, will he sleep. Will Ayu sleep? Will those his cohorts sleep? So don’t worry, we have the capacity to pay back. We have the capacity to tell you that enough is enough.”

He warned that the resort to despotism by the PDP National Working Committee would not do the party any good in the forthcoming general elections.

Governor Wike said that the reason why the dissolution of the Ekiti State working committee would be challenged in court was that there were still members of the PDP who believed in the rule of law and that the party should respect its constitution.
