2023: A New Nigeria Beckons With Tinubu As President, Says Lagos Assembly
Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly resumed plenary on Monday with a resolution to write commendation letters to Northern governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their collective decision that resulted in the victory of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu during the party’s recent convention.
According to a release made available to TheHeute, President Muhammadu Buhari, Southern governors on the platform of the APC, the Conference of Speakers and the National Assembly are to also receive letters of appreciation from the Assembly.
The House, which also resolved to send a congratulatory message to Tinubu, who the lawmakers called a ‘golden fish’, thanked the presidential aspirants who stepped down from the race and supported the former governor of Lagos state to victory.
This is as the members of the House further took turns to eulogise the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who is known to have commenced the mobilisation for Tinubu long before the latter officially declared his intention.
Recall that Speaker Obasa, since 2020, had visited many states of Nigeria canvassing for support for the emergence of Tinubu as APC flag bearer.
In his contribution, Obasa said the outcome of the primary election was worth celebrating, especially in relation to the number of people who supported and played various roles to ensure Tinubu’s victory.
According to him, the action of the Northern governors has further deepened democracy and unity.
Ahead of the convention, the APC governors in the North had resolved to support a Southern aspirant. They also made their decision public.
“That singular action of the Northern governors is proof and testimony that Nigeria’s democracy has come to stay and that Nigeria will continue to exist as one. It goes beyond giving Asiwaju support and shows that in togetherness, we can take this country forward.
“The emergence of Asiwaju gives hope that there are better days ahead where we would have an egalitarian society.
“We have absolute confidence that just like he did it before, he can do it again,” the Speaker said as he recalled the various achievements recorded by Tinubu as governor of Lagos state.
He tasked stakeholders and party leaders to intensify their support for Tinubu ahead of the general election.
On his part, a lawmaker, Abdulsubur Olayiwola, described Tinubu as a political warlord just as he argued that the presidential candidate’s Abeokuta declaration helped his victory.
He also noted that Speaker Obasa started reaching out to Nigerians from other parts of the country even before it became public knowledge that Tinubu would run for the position.
While another lawmaker, Hon. Tobun Abiodun, confirmed that Obasa started the move even “things were still sketchy”, his colleague, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, said: “Nigeria as a nation just got lucky because by 2023, we are going to have a President who has the grace to move this country to greater heights.
“With a true democrat in the person of Asiwaju, a new Nigeria beckons.”
He described Obasa as a man with foresight for championing Tinubu’s cause.
Also contributing, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, described Tinubu as a man whose time to lead the country has come.
While commending Obasa, Agunbiade added: “We must go back to our constituencies and ensure that those who would vote for Asiwaju get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).
For Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu, Tinubu reaped what he had sowed for many years with his victory at the convention.
Osun West APC leaders urge party to zone the 2026 governorship ticket to their district, citing justice, fairness, and strong electoral support
The Forum of Former Local Government Chairmen in Osun West Senatorial District has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to zone the party’s 2026 governorship ticket to their district.
The appeal was made during a press conference at the Senatorial Secretariat of the APC in Iwo on Wednesday.
The group, comprising 41 ex-chairmen, argued that zoning the ticket to Osun West would promote justice, fairness, and equity, while also enhancing the party’s chances of reclaiming power from the current administration led by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The Forum highlighted that Osun West has remained a stronghold for the APC, demonstrating this during the 2022 governorship election by delivering six out of ten local government victories in the district, despite the opposition candidate hailing from the same region.
Mukaila Oladejo, former chairman of Ayedaade Local Government, read the communiqué, which outlined the Forum’s key resolutions.
They expressed confidence that an APC candidate from Osun West would not only strengthen party unity but also guarantee victory in the 2026 elections.
The Forum commended the leadership of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, who currently serves as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, and the APC State Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal.
They praised their efforts in growing the party’s membership and fostering coordination, which has made the APC more attractive to Osun residents.
The Forum expressed confidence that with the APC’s growing popularity and unity, the party would reclaim power in Osun State by fielding a credible and dynamic candidate.
They also urged party leaders, including Chief Bisi Akande and the Osun State APC Elders Forum, to support their resolution.
As the 2026 elections approach, the APC in Osun State faces critical decisions that could determine its political future.
The EFCC has condemned Asue Ighodalo for obstructing the arrest of Jonathan Okunbor, a suspect linked to a N6 billion fraud, despite claims he was a witness in the Edo State election tribunal
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has strongly criticised Asue Ighodalo for preventing the arrest of Jonathan Okunbor, a key suspect in a N6 billion fraud investigation.
The EFCC issued a statement in response to a viral video showing Ighodalo and his team resisting Okunbor’s arrest, claiming that he was a witness in the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) election tribunal.
The EFCC, however, rejected the claims, asserting that Okunbor is not a witness in the election matter, but rather a prime suspect in a case involving the misappropriation of funds across all 18 local government areas of Edo State.
The Commission detailed that about N6 billion had been diverted to Kezmith Global Ventures, a company linked to Okunbor.
Despite the claims of Ighodalo’s team, the EFCC’s investigation revealed that Okunbor had been operating the venture using a false identity and had been attempting to evade capture.
EFCC officers were obstructed from performing their duties, but the Commission has affirmed its commitment to bring Okunbor to justice for his alleged involvement in the fraud.
The EFCC reassured the public that it will continue its investigation into the matter, stating that the agency will not be deterred by any claims of political affiliation or legal immunity.
Felix Morka reveals he has received over 400 threats, including explicit death threats, following Peter Obi’s allegations of endangering his life.
The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has revealed that he has been subjected to over 400 threats, including 200 explicit death threats, following allegations made by Peter Obi that Morka’s remarks endangered Obi’s life.
In a Wednesday appearance on Arise News, Morka detailed the disturbing nature of the threats he had received, describing them as graphic and directed at both himself and his family. He stressed that these were not idle threats, but serious, chilling messages.
“These are not empty words,” Morka stated. “I have documented approximately 200 explicit death threats. People have detailed plans to shoot me, behead me, and carry out other horrific acts.
These threats extend to my family, and I will be forwarding them to law enforcement agencies for immediate action.”
Morka strongly denied any wrongdoing, refuting the allegations that he had issued threats against Obi. He labelled the claims as baseless and unfounded, clarifying that his initial comments had been misinterpreted and did not call for violence or incite harm.
“This entire situation has been blown out of proportion,” Morka said. “At no point did I threaten Peter Obi or suggest harm should come to him.
The individuals behind these threats are acting independently, and I have full confidence that the authorities will address this appropriately.”
The controversy erupted after Morka’s remarks during a Sunday interview, where he accused Obi of crossing a line in his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
His statement that Obi “deserved whatever came his way” sparked outrage, with many critics accusing Morka of stoking political tension and inciting violence.
Morka’s defence comes amidst growing concerns over political rhetoric in Nigeria, with leaders from all sides calling for greater responsibility in speech and actions to avoid further escalation.
