Unknown gunmen murder Oshodi-Isolo LG deputy Chief of Staff (Photos)

Unknown gunmen suspected to be hoodlums on Friday night shot the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Oshodi-Isolo local government, Hon. Francis Olagoke Oguntulu.

The gunmen who shot at people at a party on Adeyemi Street, Oshodi, left many injured while Oguntulu who was brutally shot at and axed was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was receiving treatment along with others before he died early Sunday morning.

Eyewitness account revealed that the gunmen came unmasked and shot at close range at those at the party with many rounds of shot on Oguntulu which left him critically wounded.

Mourning the deceased, the council chairman, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, said the death was a shocking and highly devastating.

Oloyede, while mourning his dependable and loyal staff, tasked the Lagos state Police command to fish out those behind the gruesome killing.

Oloyede appeals for calm and asked the people to allow the Police carry out thorough investigation on the case.

“We have lost a loyal, jovial and everly friendly man to the cold hands of death. The death came to us as a rude shock. We appeal to the Lagos Police to unravel the cause of the death and ensure those behind the dastardly act are brought to book to serve as deterrent to those planning evil acts.”

“As we mourn Goke, I appeal to our party men and women and all residents of our dear council to remain calm as we have asked the Police to investigate the matter. We will never leave any stone unturned in this case. We will work hand in hand with the Police in the course of their investigations to unmask those behind the act.”
The deceased body has been deposited at the Isolo General Hospital.

Residents and political allies of the late Deputy Chief of Staff expressed shock over the incident and the entire community thrown into mourning mood since the news of his death was broken.

The late Oguntulu was survived by aged parents, his wife, three children and siblings.

Terrorists attack Yobe military base, kill soldier

Suspected terrorists about midnight of Saturday, March 23, attacked a military base in Gujba town, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing a soldier.

Yobe State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, who confirmed the attack to Theheute on Sunday, said a military patrol vehicle was also torched by the suspected terrorists.

“The only thing I can confirm to you now is the attack. A soldier was killed, and troops and CJTF engaged the suspected terrorists,” he said.

Reliable local sources told Theheute that the suspected insurgents, who stormed the town by 12 midnight, shooting indiscriminately and subsequently attacking the military base, were later repelled by troops who chased them out to the surrounding bush.

A resident of Gujba, Modu Bahna, while narrating his ordeal, said, “They (suspected terrorists) stormed the town some minutes after midnight, shooting sporadically and majority of us took to our heels into the surrounding bushes for our dear lives.”

“The attackers did not kill any civilian or loot food or other essential commodities stores,” another source, Dala Bukar, said, adding, “They only attacked the two patrol vehicles in the military base where a soldier was killed.”

This recent killing of a millionaire personal is coming after 15 soldiers were killed during a communal clash in Delta State.

The personnel consist of two Majors, one Captain, and 12 soldiers.

They were said to have met their deaths while responding to a distress call during a clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities in the state.

Police foil gunmen attack on Anambra station

The Anambra State Police Command has said that it foiled a planned attack on the Police Divisional Headquarters in Nneni, in the Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.

Some yet-to-be-identified assailants, in the early hours of Thursday, invaded the police station, throwing explosive devices which burnt part of the building.

A source and one of the residents in the area said the hoodlums were attempting to free some inmates at the facility, but they were unsuccessful as police officers on duty repelled the attack.

When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the attack but added that no life was lost and the assailants were repelled.

“In Nneni, no life was lost, no policeman was whisked away, and no arm was taken away. Instead, the hoodlums threw IEDs into the police facility which torched part of the building.

“Our operatives gallantly resisted the attackers which made them flee. Operations are still ongoing and further development shall be communicated, please,” Ikenga said.

Terrorist leader Junaidu Fasagora, scores of his fighters killed in Zamfara

The Nigerian Army says it has killed notorious terrorist leader Junaidu Fasagora and scores of his fighters after a ferocious artillery bombardment and ground battle in Tsafe general area of Zamfara State.

The Army, in a statement on its verified social media handles said the troops deployed in Zamfara State for Counter terrorism Counter insurgency operations in the North West Region achieved the feat.

“Junaidu Fasagora and his terrorists group have long been responsible for a series of kidnappings and other terrorism activities against the populace across several states in the North West.

“Their elimination marks a crucial victory in the fight against terrorism and insurgency,” the army said.

According to the military, the successful operation is a clear assertion of Nigerian Army’s relentless pursuit of peace and stability in the region and other regions of the country.

“Troops remain committed to sustaining the ongoing operations against terrorism, insurgency and sundry crimes to restore safety and security to troubled areas,” it said.
