AMAA Unveils Venue, Releases Schedule For Week-long Activities

The Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) has announced plans for a week-long activities for the 2022 edition of the continental awards, which holds next week in Lagos, Nigeria.

In a statement announcing activities for the 18th AMAA, the organisers disclosed that this year’s edition will hold at the bespoke Jewel Aeida hall in Lekki Phase I and will have so much glamour while retaining its essence of rewarding professionalism and technicalities of filmmaking across the African continent and diaspora.

Announcing the activities scheduled for the event, a statement from the organisers said the 18th edition of AMAA will begin with the graduation of trainees by the African Film Academy on October 25, 2022.

The graduation ceremony will be followed by the Wellness Day on October 27, 2022, while on October 28, 2022, it will host dignitaries and fashion buffs to a series of conferences that include diaspora discussion, music and film discussion, and round off with a fashion show.

The nominees party is expected to follow on Saturday October 29, 2022, while the AMAA gala will hold at Jewel Aeida Hall on Sunday October 30, 2022.

Some of the dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include the Lagos State governor, H.E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner for Culture, Arts & Tourism, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf.

Filmmaker Bolanle Austen-Peters, whose film, ‘Man Of God,’ got over five nominations including best director, best actor, and best actress, described the AMAAs as a rewarding platform needed to encourage burgeoning filmmakers in Africa.

“It’s not just about the awards, it’s about people getting recognition for their work. Making films isn’t easy and we need the AMAA to keep up the good work of encouraging burgeoning filmmakers on the continent.”

TCN had reported that the Best Picture and Best Director prizes will be a straight fight among Tanzania, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda as the five countries cupped the most nominations.

The curvy actress noted how such people deny their colleagues, with whom they have personal beef, opportunities to star in movies by badmouthing them to movie producers and directors.

Nkechi reminded them that someday their days would soon be over.

“Now to Nollywood….to as many of you that have taken a role from any actor because of personal beef, you go as far as telling producers/directors not to use a particular actor in their movie because you don’t like them, una cup go soon full. I just say make I remind una”.

Sometime back, while defending her colleague, Adunni Ade, Nkechi Blessing noted how the movie industry pulls down anyone they dislike.

Nkechi Blessing stated that when one is hated in the movie industry, people in upper power would do anything to bring such a person down.

In similar news, months back, Habibat Jinad had called out her colleague, Yetunde Bakare, pleading with her to allow her live for her son’s sake and her mental health.

Ruth Kadiri recovers her range rover allegedly stolen by one of her staff

Nollywood Actress, Ruth Kadiri has announced the successful recovery of her stolen Range Rover Autobiography, which was allegedly taken by one of her staff members.

In a recent Instagram post on Wednesday, September 20, the actress expressed her gratitude to those who helped her in this ordeal.

Narrating the incident, Ruth Kadiri explained that she returned home on the 9th of September and was shocked to discover that her luxury vehicle, a Range Rover Autobiography, had gone missing.

She revealed that the vehicle theft was allegedly carried out by one of her employees.

However, she did not provide specific details about the identity of the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the theft.
