Speaking to journalists shortly after the judgement, Thursday, the Kogi State Government Spokesman said the Governor will remain unwavering in his faith in the judiciary.

His words: “Today’s judgement represents echoes of our victory on November 11, 2023. We campaigned round the state and worked hard to reassure the people that our party is the most reliable to take the state forward.

“November 11 will continue to be remembered in Kogi State as the day that Kogites across the Senatorial Districts united to speak with one voice, birthing a resounding victory for the incumbent Governor.

“Today’s verdict has offered another great opportunity for those who lost at the poll and in the courts to join the Governor in moving the state forward”.

Fanwo said the court case did not in any way slow governance down, as the Governor has continued to “roll up his sleeves and deliver democracy dividends to the great people of the State.

At a World Press Conference held on Friday, Governor Fubara claimed that the police had been acting on the instructions of former governor Nyesom Wike to disrupt the 5th October 2024 election.

Governor Fubara stated that all legal, security, and logistical preparations for the election were finalised, and there was no reason for the police to obstruct the process.

He revealed that the police tried to raid the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) headquarters and steal sensitive electoral materials, but their efforts were thwarted.

“In the early hours of Friday, I received a report that police had invaded the RSIEC office,” said Governor Fubara. He described how he personally intervened to stop armed officers from seizing electoral materials, calling their actions a blatant attack on democracy in Rivers State.

Governor Fubara questioned why the Nigeria Police were acting against the state, especially when a court had ruled in favour of holding the election with full security provided by police and other agencies. He called the police’s actions illegal, suggesting they were being used as pawns in a larger political scheme.

Despite these challenges, Governor Fubara assured the people of Rivers State that the election would proceed as planned. He emphasised that the state’s actions are in line with both the Supreme Court’s directives and the agreement between the President and State Governors to uphold democratic processes.

Fubara criticised the selective application of law in Rivers, stating that other states are holding their local government elections without police interference. He expressed his disappointment with the police’s stance, questioning their loyalty to the Nigerian Constitution.

The governor called on all security agencies to ensure a peaceful election and warned that any attempt to create unrest would be the responsibility of the police.

The Edo State House of Assembly has recalled the last two suspended lawmakers, Donald Okogbe (PDP-Akoko-Edo II) and Adeh Isibor (APC-Esan North-East I), following a five-month suspension.

The lawmakers were initially suspended on May 6, 2024, alongside Bright Iyamu (Orhionmwon South) for allegedly plotting to impeach the Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, and other principal officers.

While Iyamu was reinstated in June after expressing remorse, Okogbe and Isibor remained suspended until now. During the plenary session in Benin on Wednesday, Agbebaku announced that the Assembly had reached a consensus to lift their suspension, thereby reinstating them to their legislative roles.

The Speaker also used the opportunity to congratulate Edo’s governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, following his victory in the recent governorship election.
