Bayern Munich thrash Chelsea 3–1 in a powerful start to their league phase campaign, with Harry Kane starring in a dominant performance at the Allianz Arena.

The German champions went ahead after just 20 minutes when Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah turned the ball into his own net.

Kane added a clinical penalty seven minutes later and struck again on 63 minutes to cap a night of superiority for the Bavarians.

Despite a quick Chelsea response through Cole Palmer in the 29th minute, the Premier League side were second best for large stretches, struggling to contain Bayern’s relentless pace and precision.

Kane’s brace not only lifted the home crowd but also underscored his value since arriving from England.

The striker looked sharp throughout, combining well with Leroy Sané and Jamal Musiala in a fluid front three.

Chelsea, under new head coach Enzo Maresca, looked disjointed at times, with defensive lapses and a lack of midfield control allowing Bayern to dictate the tempo.

Maresca, appointed in June, faces mounting pressure to settle his side quickly in this demanding group.
