Abubakar Muhammad, popularly known as Sultan, was brought before Chief Magistrate Muhammad Musa on Monday on a two-count charge under the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State, 2017.

According to DSS prosecution counsel, the charges followed a petition by one Hafsat Yusuf Paki, who alleged that Sultan, operating fake social media accounts, threatened to leak her indecent pictures unless she paid him in cryptocurrency and through a Point of Sales (POS) vendor.

“The complainant alleged that the accused issued threats to expose her pictures if she failed to comply and even went as far as issuing kidnap threats,” the prosecutor said, noting that while no kidnap plot was established, a prima facie case of extortion and intimidation was confirmed.

Sultan, however, pleaded not guilty. The DSS sought his remand in a correctional centre, but the court granted him bail at ₦1 million with two sureties, who must be civil servants of not less than Grade Level 16 in the Kaduna State Government.

The sureties are also required to provide passport photographs and bank statements showing not less than ₦1 million. The court clarified that no cash deposit was necessary, but the amount would be forfeited if Sultan jumped bail.

The case has been adjourned to October 6, 2025, for continuation of hearing.

Sultan was arrested on September 27 in Rigachikun, where DSS investigators said they recovered his alleged social media handles, digital footprints, and payment records.
