Kano Hypertension Programme expands to 208 PHCs, improving access to lifesaving treatment for residents across all 44 LGAs

Kano Hypertension Programme has been expanded to 208 Primary Health Care centres across the state, a significant move aimed at improving community access to lifesaving cardiovascular treatment.

The development, announced by the Public Relations Officer of the State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, builds on the success of the National Hypertension Control Initiative, implemented with support from Resolve to Save Lives and Project HOPE.

Originally launched as a pilot project in 52 PHC facilities, the initiative has now been scaled up to cover all 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

The programme provides routine blood pressure checks, treatment initiation, and continuous follow-up care to prevent hypertension-related complications such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Yusuf, described the expansion as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to strengthening the health system and ensuring equitable access to essential care.

“Our goal is to ensure that every resident, no matter where they live, can access quality hypertension care within their community,” Yusuf stated.

“This scale-up is about saving lives, reducing hospital admissions, and preventing premature deaths from preventable conditions like hypertension.”

He praised the dedication of health workers participating in the project and urged them to sustain their efforts in improving public health outcomes.

The Commissioner reaffirmed that the state government remains committed to strengthening disease prevention and management across all levels of healthcare delivery.
