A Cameroonian escape case in Osogbo raises alarm as a migrant flees suspected ritualists and seeks help from Amotekun after a dangerous chase

According to information obtained on Tuesday, a Cameroonian Escape Case has unsettled parts of Osogbo after a 28-year-old migrant fled suspected ritualists and sought refuge at the Osun Amotekun Corps headquarters in the Powerline area.

Ondigui Nnomo Germain, who appeared exhausted and frightened, arrived at the Amotekun gate around 11 a.m., narrating through a mobile phone translator how he had been lured from Yaounde on the promise of a job that quickly turned into a disturbing ordeal.

He explained that a Nigerian man, the son of his employer at a second-hand shop in Yaounde, convinced him to travel to Nigeria for employment. To raise funds, he sold his personal belongings.

He said the man ensured he and another traveller arrived with no money of their own and were handed Nigerian SIM cards on arrival.

Germain said he lodged at a hotel along the Osogbo Ikirun Road after arriving on Sunday but became suspicious when unfamiliar men began frequenting the premises.

He recalled that on Monday morning, he was taken for what he was told would be a job interview. Inside the room, several men wearing rings tried to convince him about the supposed role.

He described the scene as unsettling and said it resembled a ritual circle. Sensing danger, he slipped out of the hotel. A vehicle immediately gave chase.

He escaped into an abandoned building where he spent the night before wandering into the Amotekun headquarters at dawn.

Speaking anxiously, he said he feared he was no longer safe in Nigeria. He asked to be escorted towards the Cameroon border through Buea because he believed the group had “men stationed along the road”.

When contacted, the Osun Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, advised that the case be reported at the nearest police station. Germain was subsequently moved to Obelawo Police Post, where he formally lodged the complaint.

The incident emerges shortly after the Osun Police Command announced the arrest of ten suspected members of an unlawful group in Moro community.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan said the group was planning violent acts at a lounge before police officers, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the location.

A gun battle followed but officers subdued the suspects. Firearms, ammunition, vehicles and motorcycles were recovered. Police are still searching for the lounge owner and supervisor.

Gotan described the hideout as a base for criminals involved in cultism, kidnapping and thuggery. He added that police responded with what he called a decisive and powerful counter-offensive that prevented casualties.
