Mikel Arteta says the Arsenal revival has positioned the club to win major trophies as he marks six years in charge

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said the club’s sustained revival under his leadership has placed the Gunners in a strong position to win major trophies, as he marks six years in charge.

Arteta spoke ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Everton FC, a match that could see the north London side top the table at Christmas as they chase a first league title since the 2003–04 season.

The 43-year-old Spaniard has delivered only one major trophy so far, lifting the FA Cup early in his tenure, but has overseen a powerful transformation that restored Arsenal as title contenders and Champions League regulars.

Between 2017 and 2022, Arsenal failed to finish in the Premier League’s top four for six straight seasons, a period marked by instability and declining competitiveness.

Under Arteta, the club have finished second in each of the last three campaigns, re-establishing themselves among England’s elite.

“The transformation has been around the club in terms of the size, revenues, the squad that we built, the value of it and the sporting success,” Arteta said on Friday.

“Even though we haven’t won major trophies yet, it’s been very consistent. We are in the right place.”

Arsenal currently sit two points clear of Manchester City at the summit, although recent draws against Sunderland and Chelsea, followed by a defeat to Aston Villa, have tightened the title race.

The Gunners now face a demanding festive schedule, with six matches between December 20 and January 8 that could shape their campaign.

Arteta made his ambitions clear when asked what he wanted for Christmas.

“Win, win, win, win, win all the games,” he said, adding that success would fuel his energy and belief.
