Acting IGP Tunji Disu pledges police reform, ending impunity and enforcing zero tolerance for corruption across Nigeria Police Force

Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Tunji Disu, has declared that the era of impunity within the Nigeria Police Force is over, promising strict adherence to human rights and accountability.

Tunji Disu made the announcement while addressing State House correspondents shortly after his swearing-in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.

The new police chief emphasised that officers and men across the force would face zero tolerance for corruption.

“The era of impunity is over. I will ensure that all officers understand that their duty is to protect citizens and uphold the law with integrity,” Tunji Disu said. “Cooperation with the public is essential to our success.”

The Acting IGP recounted his career achievements and noted that the recognition by President Tinubu reinforced his commitment to reform.

He added that training and discipline would be central to reshaping the force and restoring public confidence.

Tunji Disu’s pledge comes amid growing calls for police accountability in Nigeria, highlighting the need for a service that respects civil liberties while maintaining order.

Observers noted that his appointment marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to professionalise the force.

In addition to administrative reforms, Tunji Disu encouraged officers to embrace community engagement and transparency, signalling a more proactive and human-centred approach to policing.
