FAAN launches four digital payment options at Nigerian airports, aiming for faster, safer, and cashless access through cards, e-tags, VIP stickers, and POS

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has launched four digital payment options at access gates across airports nationwide under its “Operation Go Cashless” initiative.

The rollout, announced on the authority’s X account, seeks to eliminate cash transactions, speed up entry, and support Nigeria’s transition to a cashless economy.

Available payment options include the FAAN Go Cashless Card, e-tag for automatic deductions, VIP stickers for authorised vehicles, and ATM/debit card payments via POS terminals.

The initiative, launched in partnership with Paystack, began at major hubs including Murtala Muhammed International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

While designed to increase efficiency and transparency, the first day of implementation saw traffic congestion at Lagos and Abuja airports.

Travelers without prepaid cards relied on POS payments, causing delays and missed flights.

FAAN urged users to preload their cards and emphasised that the system would make transactions “faster, safer, and more convenient,” potentially boosting revenue by up to 75% through reduced cash handling.
