Ronik Polytechnic in Lagos champions technology-driven education, equipping students with practical skills, innovation, and industry collaboration

The acting Rector of Ronik Polytechnic, Dr Abiodun Olafenwa, has described the institution as an emerging legacy of technical education committed to national development, speaking at the polytechnic’s 20th matriculation ceremony.

Olafenwa stated that the institution aspires to go beyond traditional classroom teaching, evolving into a centre for innovation, research, industrial collaboration, commercialisation, and technological consulting.

He emphasised that Ronik Polytechnic aims to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to prepare them as tomorrow’s job creators.

“Globally, higher education institutions are increasingly becoming innovation ecosystems where knowledge meets industry, research drives economic solutions, and graduates are equipped not only to seek jobs, but to create them. Ronik Polytechnic is deliberately positioning itself within this global paradigm shift,” Olafenwa said.

The acting rector also highlighted recent reforms and institutional restructuring designed to transition the polytechnic from a tuition-dependent model to a multi-revenue knowledge enterprise.

Strategic engagements with industry and innovation-focused programmes, he said, ensure graduates are aligned with real-world demands.

Chris Alabi, visitor of the polytechnic represented by Vice-Chairman of the Governing Council, Adeola Olubanjo, urged students to recognise matriculation as a responsibility to uphold the institution’s values and standards.

Olubanjo added that the polytechnic is increasingly technology-focused, equipping laboratories, upgrading equipment, and offering programmes that reflect the current technological ecosystem.

“Our school is really rooted in technology,” he said, stressing the institution’s commitment to bridging education with industry innovation.
