Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman could be handed a new attacking role at Atletico Madrid following the imminent departure of Antoine Griezmann to Orlando City.

Griezmann’s exit will bring an end to his 20-year European career and trigger a tactical reshuffle at Atletico Madrid, particularly affecting Lookman.

Currently deployed by coach Diego Simeone as a wide midfielder in a rigid 4-4-2 formation, Lookman’s pace is maximised on the flanks, but he is often tasked with significant defensive responsibilities.

During his stint at Atalanta, the Nigerian forward thrived as an inverted winger or second striker.

With Griezmann leaving, Lookman is expected to transition into a more advanced attacking role, potentially forming a two-pronged strike partnership and operating closer to goal.
