Mystery surrounds the WAFCON 2026 postponement as Morocco confirms readiness while CAF cites unforeseen circumstances for the delay to July–August

Confusion continues to surround the postponement of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026, even as Moroccan officials insist the country was fully prepared to host the tournament as originally scheduled.

The WAFCON 2026 postponement Morocco narrative has drawn significant attention after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) shifted the tournament from its initial March start date to a new window between July and August 2026.

According to Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, the decision to delay the tournament was taken by CAF, not the host nation. He emphasized that Morocco remains fully capable and ready to stage major international competitions at any time.

Morocco has in recent years established itself as a key destination for African football tournaments, hosting multiple CAF competitions across different age categories as well as senior-level events.
