LeBron James says he will take time to consider his future after the Lakers were swept out of the NBA playoffs

LeBron James has admitted that he remains uncertain about his basketball future after the Los Angeles Lakers crashed out of the NBA playoffs following a 115-110 defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night.

The defeat completed a 4-0 Western Conference semi-finals sweep for Oklahoma City and raised fresh speculation that the game could mark the final appearance of James’ remarkable NBA career.

Despite producing another determined display with 24 points and 12 rebounds, the 41-year-old could not prevent the Lakers from suffering elimination in Los Angeles.

LeBron James is now out of contract and will enter the offseason as a free agent, with uncertainty surrounding whether he will retire, extend his stay with the Lakers or pursue a move elsewhere.

Speaking after the game, the four-time NBA champion said he needed time to reflect and discuss his future with his family before making any decision.

“I don’t know what the future holds for me,” James said.

“Obviously, as it stands right now, tonight, I’ve got a lot of time. I’ll go back and recalibrate with my family.”

The NBA icon also suggested that any decision about continuing his career would depend on whether he still felt motivated by the demanding preparation required at the highest level.

“I think for me, it’s about the process,” he explained, referring to the daily commitment needed to compete professionally.

LeBron James, widely regarded as one of basketball’s greatest players, insisted he no longer feels pressure to prove himself after a glittering career filled with records, championships and historic milestones.

“There’s nothing I need to show in this league,” he added.

While attention remains fixed on James’ future, Oklahoma City advanced confidently after another commanding playoff performance.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 35 points as the reigning champions continued their impressive postseason run.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, Donovan Mitchell inspired the Cleveland Cavaliers to a crucial 112-103 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Mitchell exploded for 43 points, including a sensational 39-point second half, to level the series at 2-2 and equal the NBA postseason record for most points scored in one half.

The Cavaliers will now head to Detroit for game five with momentum firmly on their side.
