Kano Islamic scholars have declined the decision by State Assembly to castrate rapists as a form of punishment in the state.
On July 15, Mr. Nuradden Alhassan proposed the motion before the State House of Assembly to approve castration as a more harsh punishment for rape offenders.
Shiek Ibrahim Khali in a statement disclosed that the Islamic scholars do not agree to that mode of punishment because it is against the teaching of Islam. They continued that the lawmakers should recount the Old Kano Shira law which states the penalty for rape offenders and adulterers.
Shiek added that Kano State House of Assembly will meet Council of Ulama and discuss over the matter.
