2026 BECE schedule released by Lagos State Government as authorities announce exam dates and reiterate zero tolerance for malpractice

The Lagos State Government has announced the 2026 BECE Schedule, confirming that the Basic Education Certificate Examination will be conducted from June 29 to July 6, 2026, across the state.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Lagos State Examinations Board, providing students, parents, guardians and school administrators with the timetable for one of the state’s most important academic assessments.

Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr Adebayo Orunsolu, described the examination as a crucial stage in the educational development of students transitioning to the next phase of their academic journey.

“The examination remains a significant academic milestone in the educational journey of students across the State,” Orunsolu said.

According to the examination timetable, the assessment will commence on Monday, June 29, 2026, and conclude on Monday, July 6, 2026.

The 2026 BECE Schedule is expected to guide preparations in both public and approved private schools, with education authorities urging stakeholders to familiarise themselves with all relevant procedures ahead of the exercise.

Orunsolu called on parents, guardians and school administrators to ensure strict compliance with the directives issued by the Lagos State Examinations Board.

He explained that the Basic Education Certificate Examination serves as the official qualifying assessment for students moving from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School.

“The BECE serves as the official transition examination for students in public and approved private schools advancing from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School,” he stated.

The registrar also emphasised the importance of adequate preparation, noting that schools have a responsibility to ensure all eligible candidates are academically and administratively ready before the commencement of the examination.

To boost confidence in the process, the Lagos State Examinations Board disclosed that all administrative and logistical arrangements required for the conduct of the examination have been completed.

According to the board, the measures are designed to guarantee a smooth, transparent and credible examination process across examination centres in the state.

A key highlight of the announcement was the government’s renewed commitment to examination integrity.

Orunsolu reiterated the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice, warning candidates and stakeholders against any attempt to compromise the credibility of the exercise.

He stressed that any form of malpractice, misconduct or disruption during the examination period would attract disciplinary sanctions in accordance with existing regulations.

The Basic Education Certificate Examination remains a critical component of Nigeria’s basic education system, serving as the benchmark for progression into senior secondary education.

In Lagos, the examination is conducted annually and plays a central role in assessing students’ readiness for higher levels of learning.

Education stakeholders have consistently emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards in the conduct of public examinations, particularly as competition for quality secondary education continues to grow.
