2027 presidential election Nigeria could slip away from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if they continue sidelining the North, a political scholar has warned.

Prof. K’tso Nghargbu, leader of a North Central stakeholders’ group, made the remarks at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday. He criticized APC for endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate and faulted PDP for zoning its ticket to the South.

According to him, ignoring the North—particularly the North Central—will carry heavy political consequences. He argued that the region has never produced a civilian president despite playing a pivotal role in Nigeria’s development.

“Any party that refuses to give its presidential ticket to the North, particularly the North Central, should forget about our votes,” Prof. Nghargbu declared. “Our demand is rooted in fairness and justice. A zone denied leadership for decades deserves a chance.”

He suggested that if the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or another party fields a northern candidate, especially from the North Central, and the region delivers bloc votes, such a party could clinch victory in 2027.

Prof. Nghargbu insisted that the North Central has capable leaders ready for national leadership and warned APC and PDP that their current strategies risk alienating millions of voters.
