Nigerian music legend 2Baba, born Innocent Idibia, has expressed confidence in the continued global relevance of Afrobeats, dismissing concerns about the genre’s potential decline.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Yaw on Wazobia FM, 2Baba credited the resilience of Afrobeats to the new generation of artists who are redefining the sound and keeping it vibrant.

“Afrobeats can never die. If you listen to some of the young Afrobeats artists now, you will agree with me that the genre is in safe hands,” 2Baba said.

He highlighted the creativity and unique styles of emerging acts, noting that their innovative sound and energy are crucial to the genre’s sustained success both in Nigeria and internationally.

The veteran singer specifically praised fast-rising artist Fola for remaking his classic track “If Love Is A Crime,” describing the rendition as “impressive and refreshing.”

“I really loved it. Soft, smooth vocals. It is amazing. The present crops of artists have special flows. I love their styles,” he added.
