NAPTIP has summoned controversial singer Speed Darlington for questioning following a viral video where he admitted to an “inappropriate relationship” with a 15-year-old, warning of legal action if he fails to comply

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has formally summoned controversial singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, for questioning regarding his claims of having engaged in sexual acts with a minor.

Speed Darlington sparked widespread outrage on social media after a viral video surfaced where he admitted to having an “inappropriate relationship” with a 15-year-old girl.

This admission prompted NAPTIP to issue an official invitation for him to appear.

“Mr. Darlington Okoye (AKA Speed Darlington) is urged to respond to the official invitation issued on May 28, 2025, regarding a viral video and others in which he admitted to sexually abusing a minor,” the agency announced on its X handle on Thursday, May 29, 2025. NAPTIP added a stern warning: “Failure to respond may lead to further action.”

The two-page summon from NAPTIP explicitly states: “We write to formally invite you to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in respect of certain video materials recently circulated online, including but not limited to a particular Instagram video wherein you allegedly made statements admitting to having engaged in sexual acts with an underage girl. Additional archived videos, now in circulation, similarly contain admissions and degrading commentary concerning minors.”

The agency highlighted that such actions, if substantiated, could constitute offenses under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015 and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

Speed Darlington has been directed to appear in person for an interview regarding the alleged actions on Friday, May 30, 2025, by 9 a.m. at the NAPTIP Headquarters: 2028 Dalaba Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, FCT.

He was also advised to bring along any legal representation or relevant documents.

NAPTIP emphasized, “Please be informed that your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough inquiry into the matter. Failure to honour this invitation may result in further legal action.”

The initial video by Speed Darlington triggered significant backlash from Nigerians and authorities, leading the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to escalate the matter to NAPTIP.

However, the singer later released another video claiming his earlier comment was merely a marketing stunt to promote his new song, and he apologized to those who were offended by his statement.
