FG responds to Simi daycare abuse allegations as NAPTIP invites victims and witnesses to submit credible evidence confidentially

The Federal Government on Wednesday responded to public calls for an investigation into alleged child sexual abuse linked to a daycare centre reportedly owned by the mother of Nigerian singer Simi, following social media claims.

The controversy emerged after older posts by Simi resurfaced on X amid rape allegations made by a TikTok user identified as Mirabel.

In the resurfaced posts, Simi had previously expressed concern about sexual assault in Nigeria and stated that rapists should face severe punishment.

Amid the online debate, some users alleged that certain old tweets referencing children at her mother’s daycare suggested inappropriate intent. The allegations triggered widespread reactions and calls for official scrutiny.

In response, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, assured the public of its commitment to investigate credible claims of child sexual abuse and misconduct.

The agency, known as NAPTIP, urged individuals with factual information or direct knowledge of any incident to come forward confidentially.

In a statement posted on its official X account, the agency stated: “If you have factual information, evidence, or were directly affected, please reach out confidentially via DM or email info@naptip.gov.ng.”

The Federal Government’s response signals a formal willingness to examine the Simi daycare abuse allegations, while emphasising that investigations will be guided by verified evidence rather than social media speculation.

No formal charges have been announced as of the time of filing this report.
