Julius, who hailed from Okposi in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of Rivers State, was reportedly killed during a suspected cult clash in Rumuolumeni on 19 July 2025.

The Rivers State Police Command had linked his death to a rival cult group conflict. However, his elder brother, Ambrose Okpor, refuted the claim.

“My brother was never a cultist,” Ambrose told journalists in Port Harcourt. “He was a student of Computer Science and had no bad record.”

Ambrose explained he was alerted to the incident by a neighbour and friend of Julius. “I received a distress call that my brother had been shot. When I got there, I saw policemen and vigilantes, but he had already passed,” he said.

He also clarified the police’s claim about the hospital. “We took his body to the Military Hospital along Aba Road, not the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital,” he said.

The family described Julius as a peaceful young man and responsible caretaker at his residence on Cevelia Street. “His neighbours spoke well of him. He lived a free and quiet life,” Ambrose added.
