AAUA Student Killings have triggered protests as students decry rising violence in Akungba Akoko. They demand urgent action from Ondo State authorities

AAUA Student Killings have ignited widespread protests in Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, as students from Adekunle Ajasin University took to the streets on Saturday, July 26, demanding immediate government intervention.

The protest follows the brutal killing of Joy Adeyemi, a student from the Department of Human Kinetics, who was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend—an indigene of the town—on Tuesday, July 22.

Her decomposing body was discovered days later after neighbours noticed a foul odour.

Joy’s death comes just weeks after the tragic abduction and killing of two other AAUA students—Andrel Okah and John Abba. While some suspects have been arrested, the alleged mastermind reportedly died in police custody.

The protesting students carried placards reading “Stop killing us, AAUA students” and “Say no to students’ killings.” Anger was palpable, with calls for justice and a safer learning environment echoing through Akungba’s streets.

“We’re tired of losing our friends,” said Kunle, one of the protesters. “We want justice. We want safety.”

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee, Ondo Axis, released a strongly worded statement condemning the repeated attacks on students. NANS urged security agencies and the Ondo State government to act swiftly.
