Kano mobile traffic courts have been launched to prosecute motorists and tricycle operators flouting traffic lights, as part of Governor Abba Yusuf’s push for safer roads

The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has inaugurated mobile courts to conduct on-the-spot trials for motorists and tricycle operators caught violating traffic lights across the metropolis.

The initiative, rolled out on Tuesday, follows Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s directive for stricter enforcement of traffic rules to improve compliance and enhance safety on Kano’s busy roads.

KAROTA Managing Director Faisal Mahmud Kabir, speaking at the inauguration, stressed that the state government had invested heavily in modern solar-powered traffic lights across the city and expected road users to reciprocate by obeying regulations.

“From today, any vehicle owner caught violating traffic lights will be apprehended by KAROTA officials and security personnel for immediate trial in our mobile courts,” Kabir announced.

He explained that the new enforcement measure was not intended to punish but to protect.

“These courts are not meant to harass or intimidate anyone. Our primary goal is to safeguard lives and property while ensuring smooth traffic flow,” he said.

Kabir reaffirmed KAROTA’s commitment to implementing the people-oriented transport policies of the Yusuf administration, which prioritise order, safety, and efficiency in the state’s transport system.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Command pledged its full support for the initiative.

The command assured KAROTA of its cooperation in apprehending offenders and ensuring strict adherence to traffic rules across the state.
