NDLEA drug trafficking case in Lagos charges two businessmen with cannabis and MDMA offences, exposing a major conspiracy in Nigeria’s narcotics fight

The NDLEA drug trafficking case against two Lagos businessmen has taken a dramatic turn after prosecutors filed a three-count charge involving conspiracy and narcotics offences.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) accused Ejike Okolo, 38, and Uchendu Abel Chukwuka, 31, of conspiring to traffic 118.5 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa on March 16, 2025, in Lagos State.

Prosecutors also alleged their involvement in the trafficking of 100 grams of MDMA (Molly), both classified as psychotropic substances.

According to the charge sheet marked FHC/L/516C/25, the offences fall under Section 14(b) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as amended in 2024.

The businessmen were further accused of coordinating the illegal transportation and delivery of 128 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa without lawful authority, in violation of Section 20(1)(a)&(g).

The NDLEA described the matter as a serious conspiracy threatening Nigeria’s drug control efforts. If convicted, the defendants face severe penalties.

The case is fixed for arraignment on September 25, 2025, with trial scheduled to begin on November 3 and 4, 2025 before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
