Kylian Mbappé equals Thierry Henry with 51 goals for France, closing in on Olivier Giroud’s all-time record after scoring against Ukraine

Kylian Mbappé has matched Thierry Henry’s legendary mark as France’s joint second-highest goalscorer after netting in Les Bleus’ 2-0 victory over Ukraine in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday.

The 26-year-old forward struck in the 82nd minute, bringing his international tally to 51 goals level with Arsenal icon Henry. Only Olivier Giroud sits ahead of him on France’s scoring chart, with 57 goals.

France tightened their hold on Group C with the win. Michael Olise opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Kylian Mbappé sealed the result late on, while Ukraine struggled to trouble Didier Deschamps’ side.

Since making his debut in 2017, Mbappé has risen rapidly to become the face of French football.

He exploded onto the global stage at the 2018 World Cup, scoring four goals including one in the final as France lifted the trophy in Russia.

At Qatar 2022, the Paris-born star cemented his superstar status, winning the Golden Boot with eight goals, capped by a dramatic hat-trick in the final against Argentina.
