The tragedy unfolded late on Thursday when suspected cultists invaded the burial rites of an 18-year-old boy and opened fire on mourners. Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately, forcing mourners to flee for their lives.

One witness recounted: “The family members of the deceased and other mourners were performing the burial rites when the gunmen arrived and shot at the gathering while others scampered to safety. They fled the scene immediately after.”

Another source suggested the violence was linked to a revenge mission between rival cult groups. “Friends of the deceased had gathered for a wake, and while they were entertaining themselves, some people arrived and opened fire.

The victims’ bodies have been deposited in a morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.
