FirstBank E1 Lagos GP Partnership sees bank backing Nigeria’s first electric powerboat race, aligning it with its festive DecemberIssaVybe campaign

FirstBank E1 Lagos GP Partnership has been officially confirmed, as First Bank of Nigeria Limited announced its support for Nigeria’s first-ever electric powerboat racing championship, scheduled to take place in October 2025.

The bank disclosed its involvement in a statement on Monday, noting that its role as presenting partner of the E1 Lagos GP forms part of its annual DecemberIssaVybe campaign—an initiative designed to deliver rich, culture-driven festive experiences to Nigerians.

Held recently in Lagos, the E1 Lagos GP Stakeholder Immersion Session saw FirstBank’s Acting Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication, Olayinka Ijabiyi, reaffirm the bank’s commitment to initiatives that foster human development, unity, and national pride.

“Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about driving legacy and enabling the passions and aspirations that unite Nigerians,” Ijabiyi said. “As a bank that has been in business for over 131 years, we understand the power of sport to bring people together.

Through our First@Sports platform, we’ve long supported legacy tournaments like the Georgian Polo Cup and the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship.”

The FirstBank E1 Lagos GP Partnership is not just about sponsorship—it’s about cultural connection. Ijabiyi added that the initiative offers “meaningful touchpoints” for customers, providing a world-class festive experience that reflects the vibrant essence of Lagos.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who also spoke at the event, praised the bank’s support and described the event as a “milestone” that will not only develop sports tourism but also shine a global spotlight on Lagos’s rich culture and innovation.

The Lagos leg of the E1 World Championship will feature teams owned by international celebrities including LeBron James, Tom Brady, Didier Drogba, Rafael Nadal, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, Will Smith, and others.

Lagos is set to host the penultimate race before the 2025 season concludes in Miami, USA.
