Bandits attacked two Patigi communities in Kwara, killing a police officer and a woman, abducting six, and injuring residents

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed deadly coordinated attacks on Motokun and Agboro communities in Patigi Local Government Area.

Spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said in a statement on Wednesday that armed bandits stormed Motokun on Tuesday night, abducting six residents and leaving six others with gunshot wounds.

One of the injured, a woman, later died in hospital, while the others are receiving treatment.

The attackers then moved to nearby Agboro, where they targeted a private company. In the ensuing confrontation, a police officer was killed in active service, and properties within the facility were vandalised.

State Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo has deployed tactical teams, working with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, to restore calm and secure the release of those abducted.

“Patrols and surveillance operations have been intensified in the axis, and residents are assured of the command’s unwavering commitment to their safety,” the statement said.

The command extended condolences to the families of the victims and appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.

The incident adds to growing concerns over the spread of banditry beyond Nigeria’s North-West, with communities in the North-Central increasingly under threat.
