Labour Party condemns Abure assault at Abuja airport, calling for police investigation into content creator “Mama P” and her alleged sponsors

According to the party, the incident occurred as Abure prepared to board a Max Air flight to Benin. He was allegedly confronted by a woman identified as Precious Oruche, popularly known as “Mama P,” who continued to harass him throughout the journey.

Party spokesperson Obiora Ifoh said in a statement that flight attendants’ attempts to calm her down proved unsuccessful. “The attacker, Madam P, who is also a known content creator, continued the attack all throughout the duration of the flight…

The assault, which attracted a large number of onlookers, continued on disembarkation at the Benin Airport while she kept recording the scene,” Ifoh explained.

Security operatives at the Benin Airport eventually intervened, escorting Abure to safety and handing the woman over to the police.

What deepened tensions was a video released afterwards by Mama P, in which she allegedly boasted of her high-level police contacts, claimed nothing would happen to her, and vowed to keep targeting Labour Party leaders.

The LP denounced the incident as a politically motivated “suicidal aggression” and demanded that the police identify her sponsors.

“Assault and cyber-bullying are severe crimes under our laws. We think the Police must fish out her sponsors and bring them to book,” Ifoh stressed.

The party has urged its members to remain calm and avoid retaliation while investigations proceed.

Abure, who rose to national prominence during the 2023 elections on the back of Peter Obi’s campaign and the Obidient movement, has faced ongoing leadership challenges.

Though several courts have affirmed his position, a Supreme Court judgment in April 2025 raised doubts over his continued tenure, fuelling factional divisions within the party.
