The names were contained in a letter read by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alfred Emberga, during plenary in Makurdi on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

The Alia commissioner nominees are Kuma Aii-Yenge, Roy Ashirga, Monday Angwa, Elizabeth Ogenyi, Solomon Iorpev and Nick Eworo.

According to the governor, the nominations were intended to replace outgoing members of the State Executive Council while bringing additional expertise and capacity into his administration.

The move comes as the administration continues to adjust its cabinet to meet its governance priorities and strengthen the implementation of its policies across the state.

Reading the governor’s letter, Emberga said the nominations were made in exercise of Alia’s constitutional powers under Section 192 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.

Alia also asked the lawmakers to give the nominees prompt and favourable consideration in line with the Assembly’s constitutional responsibility.

The nominees will now be subjected to the Assembly’s screening and confirmation process before any formal appointment into the State Executive Council.

The development provides an important opportunity for the administration to broaden its cabinet at a time when state governments are under pressure to improve public services, infrastructure and economic opportunities for residents.

If confirmed, the six nominees will join the existing members of Alia’s cabinet and assume responsibilities in portfolios to be assigned by the governor.

The latest nominations also highlight the constitutional role of state assemblies in scrutinising executive appointments and ensuring that nominees meet the requirements for public office.
