Glo marks its 23rd anniversary with a lively staff sports fiesta in Lagos, featuring football, games, prizes and celebrations centred on teamwork

Globacom staff celebrated the company’s 23rd anniversary at The Stable in Surulere, Lagos, on Saturday, September 2, 2026, with a colourful sporting fiesta that brought together competition, camaraderie and team spirit.

Tagged Glo Fitfest 2026, the anniversary celebration gave employees an opportunity to step away from their regular routines and reconnect through a lively programme of sporting activities and entertainment.

The event featured table tennis, Big Ludo, Big Snooker, Beer Pong, Sack Race, Big Ayo and a highly competitive football tournament involving teams drawn from different departments.

The departmental teams were organised into clusters, encouraging employees from different parts of the business to work together.

Wearing specially designed coloured T-shirts, staff filled the venue with cheers, laughter and friendly banter.

Football emerged as the major attraction, with the departmental teams battling for the chance to claim bragging rights and the top prize.

Glo Rockets, made up of employees from the Sales Force and Value Added Services department, delivered the winning performance against Strikers FC, whose squad comprised staff from the Rollout, Information Systems, Gloworld Development and E-Pin departments.

Some teams strengthened their squads with colleagues who had established football credentials from outside Lagos, adding an intriguing competitive edge to the tournament.

Glo Rockets ultimately secured the trophy and a N1 million cash prize, while the runners-up received N750,000.

Players from both teams also received medals for their performances.

Winners in the other sporting events were similarly rewarded with medals and cash prizes, ensuring that the competitive spirit extended well beyond the football pitch.

Beyond the prizes, the Glo 23rd anniversary celebration provided an important opportunity for employees to build stronger relationships away from their usual workplace responsibilities.

The atmosphere reflected the wider purpose of the event, with deadlines and targets temporarily replaced by sporting rivalry, laughter and shared experiences.

For Globacom, the occasion also served as a celebration of the employees whose ideas, commitment and resilience have contributed to the company’s journey over more than two decades.
