NSCDC Kano arrests three suspects with sacks of Indian hemp in Doguwa, hands them to NDLEA for prosecution. Ongoing effort to combat drug crimes in the state

NSCDC Kano Indian hemp arrest efforts intensified this week as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, announced the arrest of three individuals, including a notorious drug dealer, for trafficking large quantities of Indian hemp in Doguwa Local Government Area.

The arrest, which occurred on Tuesday, 7th October 2025, followed a credible intelligence tip-off received by the Doguwa Division of the NSCDC.

The suspects were intercepted at Riruwai Gate while attempting to transport the contraband on a motorbike.

Commandant Bala Bodinga, while addressing journalists at the Command’s headquarters on Friday, confirmed that Yusuf Alasan, 25, of Doguwa town, was apprehended alongside Muktar Musa and Musa Sani, both adults, with three sugar-sized sacks filled with marijuana.

“The operation is part of our persistent efforts to rid Kano of criminal elements,” Bodinga stated.

He emphasised that preliminary investigations have been completed and, in line with inter-agency collaboration, the suspects and seized materials were officially handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commandant reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to synergy with other security agencies, stressing that the corps remains vigilant in tracking and intercepting criminal operations, particularly those related to drug trafficking.

This arrest follows a series of drug-related crackdowns in the state.

In August 2025, two other suspected drug dealers were arrested in separate operations by the NSCDC.

Kano State has continued to grapple with drug-related offences, with Doguwa and surrounding areas identified as transit routes for cannabis smuggling.
