Ijaw leaders hail Lagos-Calabar Super Highway Project, citing youth employment and development. Praise FG, Hitech Construction, and Minister Dave Umahi

Ijaw stakeholders under the Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationalities in Niger (MOSIEND) and the Niger Delta Youth Coalition for Peace and Progress (NDYCPP) have commended the ongoing work on the Lagos-Calabar Super Highway Project, describing it as a transformative venture with tangible benefits across coastal communities.

Led by MOSIEND President, Amb. Kennedy Tonjo-West, the groups conducted a recent inspection tour of the Akwa Ibom axis of the project.

According to Tonjo-West, they were “deeply impressed” by the pace, organisation, and seriousness of the work, which continues even through adverse weather and weekends.

“This project, quietly but steadily taking shape, is one of the most ambitious infrastructure developments in recent Nigerian history,” Tonjo-West said.

He praised **President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising the highway and hailed **Minister of Works, Dr. Dave Umahi, as a “workaholic” whose regular on-site inspections have ensured accountability and consistency.

Tonjo-West specifically applauded Hitech Construction Company Ltd, handling the Akwa Ibom section, and its Project Manager Mr. Joseph Matar, working in partnership with Drycet International Ltd, led by Mr. Karim Aleeds.

“Hitech teams are working near round-the-clock schedules. Their efficiency, technical skill, and dedication are evident across every channel,” he said.

During their visit between Channel One (Okobo/Nsit-Atta) and Channel 31 (Uruan), the groups witnessed firsthand the heavy machinery, skilled workforce, and vibrant activity that have renewed hope in the project’s long-term benefits.

Dimieri Pepple, another MOSIEND leader, said the tour erased lingering doubts about the project’s sincerity and highlighted its impact on local livelihoods.

Ini Udo Idiong, representing NDYCPP, added:

“Our formerly unemployed youths are now gainfully engaged. Small businesses are thriving around construction sites, and local communities are being revitalised.”

Idiong urged politicians to stop politicising the project, describing it as “a road for all Nigerians—regardless of party or region”.

“This coastal road will open up commerce, connect our people, and create lasting opportunities.”

The leaders commended Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno for aligning state priorities—especially youth empowerment and infrastructure—with the Federal Government’s agenda.

They also praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio for pushing development through agencies such as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
