Kano man kills wife A Kano State High Court has ordered the remand of one Idris Kurma in prison for allegedly killing his wife, Aisha Idris, following a domestic argument over grinding groundnuts to make kuli-kuli.

Justice Musa Dahiru issued the remand order on Friday after the accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code.

According to court records, the tragic incident occurred in Goda Village within the Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

During the hearing, prosecution counsel Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki read the charge to the defendant, who pleaded not guilty.

Soron Dinki then sought an adjournment to allow the prosecution present its witnesses. Justice Dahiru granted the request and adjourned the matter until December 12, 2025, for continuation of hearing.

The case has sparked public outrage across Kano, with many describing it as another grim reminder of the rise in domestic violence and gender-based killings in parts of northern Nigeria.

If convicted, Kurma faces the death penalty under Section 221 of the Penal Code.
