FIFA has announced that the 2026 World Cup winners will take home $50 million, part of a record $655 million prize fund for the tournament.

The total fund represents a nearly 50 percent increase from the $440 million distributed to teams in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Next year’s World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, will be the first edition to feature 48 teams, up from 32 in 2022.

Argentina received $42 million for winning the previous tournament, with Lionel Messi inspiring the team to victory on penalties against France. France earned $30 million as runners-up.

Under the new structure, the 2026 beaten finalists will receive $33 million, third-place finishers $29 million, and losing semi-finalists $27 million.

Teams eliminated in the group stage will each get $9 million, with all 48 participating nations receiving an additional $1.5 million for preparation costs.
