National Park attack Oyo leaves several feared dead as gunmen storm National Park Service office in Oriire Local Government Area

Suspected bandits on Tuesday night attacked the National Park Service office in Oloka, located in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, triggering a swift security response and raising fresh concerns over safety in the area.

The attack occurred at about 9 p.m., according to investigations by The PUNCH, when armed men stormed the facility under unclear circumstances.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that about five National Park Service personnel were killed during the assault, although official casualty figures had yet to be released at the time of filing this report.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adebola Olayinka Ayanlade, said security agencies were already mobilising to contain the situation.

He stated that the attackers were yet to be identified, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, alongside other security chiefs, was on the way to the affected community.

Ayanlade disclosed that tactical teams, Mobile Police Force operatives, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal units of the Nigeria Police Force had been deployed to the area.

He explained that the deployment was aimed at preventing further violence and restoring law and order.

Security agencies were still assessing the situation as of press time, while residents reportedly remained tense following the incident.
