Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa backs Run-for-Asiwaju 2027, a fitness and mobilisation drive to rally grassroots support for President Tinubu

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mudashiru Obasa, has declared strong support for the Run-for-Asiwaju 2027 mini-marathon, describing it as a powerful platform for grassroots mobilisation, youth engagement and political awareness ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Obasa spoke on Wednesday during the unveiling of the fitness cum political initiative at the Agege Local Government Secretariat, Lagos.

He said the Run-for-Asiwaju 2027 mini-marathon symbolises the discipline, resilience and determination required to secure victory in both sports and leadership.

The mini-marathon, scheduled for Sunday, January 25, is expected to attract about 1,000 participants.

The race will commence at the Agege LGA secretariat and pass through major neighbourhoods before ending at the Orile Agege LCDA. Organisers said 200 winners would receive N10,000 each, while seven professional athletes would go home with N50,000 each.

According to Obasa, the programme goes beyond physical fitness, serving as a rallying point to celebrate what he described as President Tinubu’s transformative achievements in economic reforms, infrastructure development, internal security and national unity.

“This mini-marathon is not just a sporting activity; it is a collective run to celebrate President Tinubu’s leadership and mobilise Nigerians to renew his mandate in 2027,” Obasa said.

He added that the Run-for-Asiwaju 2027 initiative reflects a leadership journey “worth running and winning” for national progress and prosperity.

The Speaker also used the occasion to urge party members to participate actively in the ongoing APC membership e-registration exercise, which he said would end in 10 days.

He noted that the process had been simplified through the deployment of high-end tablets and LaserJet printers across the state.

Obasa further called for stronger collaboration between elected officials and key grassroots stakeholders, advocating regular engagement at least on a quarterly basis to strengthen trust and political inclusion at the local level.
