The initiative was flagged off in Owerri by First Lady Chioma Uzodimma, aimed at protecting children from measles and congenital rubella syndrome.

Uzodimma praised the Federal Government’s effort in eradicating these diseases and stressed the importance of preventive healthcare. Children aged 9 months to 14 years are eligible for the vaccination, which replaces the previous measles-only vaccine in the routine immunisation schedule.

The Imo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, led by Kosilisochukwu Ekenjoku, confirmed all logistics—including vaccine supply, cold chain systems, and trained personnel—are in place for a successful campaign running February 4–16, 2026.
