The handover took place on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Makun-Omi in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, with the Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, presiding over the ceremony.

Dr Coker praised UNICEF for partnering with the state government to improve access to timely medical care and support Governor Dapo Abiodun’s primary healthcare reforms.

She highlighted the challenges posed by the difficult terrain and water transport in the region, saying the ambulance would reduce delays in emergency response and save lives.

Representing the local government, Olabode Ogunlana, an aide to Chairman Adetoye Odunoiki, described the donation as a strategic intervention that would benefit pregnant women, children, and the elderly while strengthening the overall healthcare delivery system.

Speaking on behalf of UNICEF, Vaccine Supply and Logistics Consultant Mrs Florence Molokwu commended the state government for its healthcare initiatives and urged local communities to maintain the boat.

She emphasised that the ambulance would also support immunisation and outreach programmes.
