President Tinubu and APC governors approve ₦8B to support victims of the Singer Market fire in Kano, aiding traders and rebuilding destroyed shops

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended President Bola Tinubu and All Progressives Congress (APC) governors for approving ₦8 billion to support victims of the Singer Market fire.

In a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, Governor Yusuf described the intervention as “timely and compassionate,” highlighting that ₦5 billion comes from the Federal Government and ₦3 billion from APC governors across the country.

“The support will significantly cushion the devastating impact of the fire on traders and their families,” the governor said, adding that it underscores the President’s commitment to Nigerians in moments of distress and national emergencies.

He also lauded APC governors for demonstrating “unity and shared responsibility.”

The governor assured that the funds would be “transparently utilised for rebuilding affected shops and providing direct assistance to genuine victims of the disaster.”

The donation was announced by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a sympathy visit to Singer Market, where he conveyed the Federal Government’s support for those affected.

The fire, which occurred over the weekend, destroyed goods and properties worth billions of naira, leaving hundreds of traders in distress.

Market leaders estimate that over 1,000 businesses were affected.

One trader, Isa Abubakar, reported losses exceeding ₦200 million, describing the incident as devastating.

Authorities have attributed the fire to a solar battery explosion, while emergency responders and fire service officials worked to contain the blaze.

Prior to the federal support, the Kano State Government had called for urgent assistance and the provision of modern firefighting equipment to prevent similar disasters in the future.
