According to police authorities, armed men stormed the palace and forcibly took the traditional ruler from his residence before fleeing the scene. The monarch was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead.

“Approximately six armed men stormed the residence of the monarch, forcibly took him from his compound and fled the scene.

He added that investigations had commenced and that security operatives had intensified monitoring and surveillance across the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

Community sources, however, alleged that about 10 armed men invaded the area and initially attempted to kidnap the monarch before the attack turned fatal.

The killing comes amid heightened security concerns in Akure North. Last month, suspected bandits abducted a pregnant woman, Mary Jesulayomi, in Ayede Community within the same local government area.

She was later released after a ransom was reportedly paid. Days later, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, arrested 12 suspects linked to banditry in the area.
