Akure kidnap suspect arrest follows dramatic police chase that led to the rescue of an abducted victim in Ondo State

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Adegbenro Adeola, following a dramatic chase that resulted in the rescue of an abducted victim in Akure.

The command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, describing the suspect as a member of a gang allegedly terrorising parts of the state capital.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, when police operatives on routine patrol along the Oba-Ile area received intelligence regarding a distress situation involving a man inside a moving vehicle.

The officers reportedly intercepted a red Toyota Camry after hearing cries for help from inside the car.

“Upon receipt of the report, the operatives swiftly mobilised and pursued the suspected vehicle,” the statement read.

During the high-speed pursuit, members of the gang allegedly pushed the victim out of the moving vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest.

The police team, however, continued the operation and successfully apprehended Adegbenro Adeola, while other suspects escaped from the scene.

Authorities also recovered the vehicle allegedly used during the operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the rescued victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road in Akure before the intervention by security operatives.

Abayomi Jimoh confirmed that the victim has since been rescued and is currently receiving medical attention.

The Akure kidnap suspect arrest has also yielded fresh leads, with the police saying the suspect provided useful information to support ongoing investigations into the gang’s activities.

The case has been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit in Akure for further investigation and efforts to apprehend fleeing accomplices.
