Alan Smith recommends Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace as Casemiro’s ideal replacement at Manchester United ahead of the new season

Former Alan Smith has suggested that Manchester United sign Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace as a replacement for Casemiro.

Smith told Metro UK that Wharton has the skills and discipline required to fill the defensive midfield role vacated by the former Real Madrid star at the end of the season.

“I see Adam Wharton as a natural fit for Casemiro’s position,” Smith said.

“I don’t think Mainoo would be right at this stage, because when you are in that position, you have to be disciplined to just sit there. I think Adam Wharton would probably be more suitable than Kobbie Mainoo at this moment because he is playing in one of the deeper positions.”

Wharton has impressed at Crystal Palace, showing maturity beyond his years in defensive duties.
