Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia receives federal forensic experts to support investigations into the June 2025 Yelewata killings in Guma LGA

Hyacinth Alia has received a team of federal forensic experts as investigations continue into the 13 June 2025 violent incident in Yelewata community.

The deployment of forensic pathologists follows the Federal Government’s decision to arraign nine suspects on 2 February 2026 before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The court emphasised the need for scientific evidence to ensure fairness and transparency in the trial process.

Governor Alia, represented by the Director-General of Homeland Security, Air Commodore Jacob Gbamwuan (rtd), alongside the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yangien Ornguga, assured the visiting experts of full cooperation during their seven-day assignment.

State authorities explained that the forensic exercise forms part of broader efforts to identify those responsible and secure justice for victims of the attack.

Governor Alia also urged residents to remain calm and maintain peace while investigations are ongoing, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accountability and the rule of law.
